We have a newly added 'widget' to the blog as some of you may have noticed!
It's something we were keen to add, as many of our favourite books come from reading lists on other blogs. We stumbled across 'River Cottage', the 'Gourmet Farmer' series by Matthew Evans, the Backyard Homestead and many others this way. We source many of our books through Amazon in the UK as they have a great range of interesting books and often have free shipping to Australia. It's a cost effective way of buying books and we save quite a bit of money this way. It's also lovely to receive the parcels in the mailbox!
We love to read. In fact, our built in library shelves are well and truly at capacity! Most of the books are about gardening, cooking, organic farming, crafting, animal health and travel. We find our collection a constant source of inspiration, new ideas and advice. Reading about the journeys of other people who endeavour to live off the land is my favourite topic at the moment and I've added a couple of those to the reading list too. Phil's main interest is animal husbandry and farming books. We have a fair stack of books beside the bed too - we are going to have to look at building another set of library shelves I think as the collection is growing!
We often spend an evening curled up with a good book, rather than watching TV. I think our love of books has also influenced Ava, as she really loves her stories. We started reading to her as a newborn and now bedtime stories are an important part of her day too. She is able to recite her favourites books off by heart!
