A trip to the hills!

Hello there,

We had a great weekend.  The weather was sunny and warm on Saturday, and along with a few friends we headed to the hills!

We are fortunate to live in place where if you drive for 10 minutes or so, you reach the 'forest' as Ava likes to call it.  We are lucky to live so close to seemingly endless forests and rivers.  We decided it was high time that we spend a day away from the farm relaxing, catching up with friends that we haven't seen for while and enjoying this beautiful part of the world we are lucky to call home.

We drove to a lovely picnic spot by the river.  We all brought something along for lunch and we sat on the grass, in the sunshine, shared good food and had a really relaxing afternoon.  I took some paints along for the kids and they did some 'nature art', painting leaves and flowers, then pressing them onto paper (we made quite a few Fathers Day cards this way!).  Ava also enjoyed being near the river, which was flowing steadily after all the rain we've had during the last few months.  We made some 'fairy boats' out of bark (as the hull of the boat), a stick (as the mast) and a leaf (as the sail).  We raced these down the river - she really loved it.

We have decided that we will endeavour to do more of these weekend sojourns as it was such a great day.  I've attached a few photo's for you to enjoy too.

A look out on the way there, views across the hills.

Ava loved being out in the 'forest'!

Some old bush huts we stopped at on the way home.
